New Highly Productive Grass Mixture Available for Silage
A new grass mixture designed for silage production is available from the forage grass team at Barenbrug this spring. Hybrid 4x4 is a highly productive hybrid ryegrass cutting ley, ideally suited to three or four year rotation.
Capable of producing yields that are up to 10% higher than traditional perennial ryegrass mixtures, Hybrid 4x4 is made from a blend of Barsilo (a diploid ryegrass) and three tetraploid ryegrass varieties – Kirial, Aston Crusader and Novial. These deep rooting grass varieties make efficient use of soil nutrients, creating the ultimate medium-term silage mixture.
Hybrid 4x4
Hybrid 4x4 is capable of growing at temperatures as low as 5°C, giving farmers a long growing season and enabling them to produce silage throughout the year. With a tight heading date range and excellent disease resistance, Hybrid 4x4 can deliver up to four cuts per annum with a first cut possible in early May. The product has a potential yield of up to 16t DM/ha in the first year and offers multiple exits and entries for slurry / digestate application.

Hybrid 4x4 does not contain clover – meaning it is inexpensive to clean up a sward after use. The product has a suggested sowing rate of 14kg/acre - approx. 942 seeds per metre2 – and is sold in packs that reflect this recommendation.
