The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 62 prime cattle, 7 young bulls, 31 over thirty month cattle, 25 spring lambs, 4,381 prime hoggs and 3,645 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 25th April 2013.

A larger show of prime cattle were forward although a slightly plainer show on offer. Good, well finished cattle still remaining at recent high rates with the sale topping at 252.5p twice for two great Limousin bullocks show by JC & D Nicholson & Son, The Gill. Heifers topped at 249.5p for Limousin from A & W J Taylor & Son, Dashwellgreen and to 241.5p from M/s Blaylock, Hallburn.

A smaller than expected show of 4,381 prime hoggs were forward to a keen ring of buyers all desperate for sheep with a distinct lack of good flesh forward. 327 hoggs sold as stores, 115 2 toothers, 1357 lightweights (up to 36kg) and 2583 other hoggs were sold. The sale averaged 209p (SQQ 210.7p) and was topped at £128.50 for Suffolks from JS MacKay, Biggin, Caithness and to 284p for Beltex from Messrs Wharton, The Snade.

A larger show of cast ewes and rams were forward to the usual ring of buyers with averages being back £10 on the week, although they were back the ewes were actually easier to sell and there was a good demand.
