Clydesdales Head South for County Show

The last Monday in the month sees Jacqueline Adamson and her family travel south from Glasgow to the Northumberland County Show for the first time to exhibit their Clydesdale horse.

She commented “We’re really looking forward to the trip, and delighted to be showing our new horse. The fact that this year sees the show move to a new venue makes our trip even more exciting”.

Jacqueline and her daughter Lyndsay (14) teamed up with Matt Burks of the well known Matthews Shire and Clydesdale stud in Lincolnshire and travelled together to Northern Ireland earlier this year where they purchased Glebeview Emma. This fine yearling filly has already taken the reserve championship at Neilston Show where the family took her for her first outing of the show season two weeks ago.

The family come from the traditional home of the Clydesdale Horse, in Lanarkshire, but this is no guarantee of success. Jacqueline explains
“With the breed being so popular throughout the UK, it is a challenge to head out our comfort zone and compete against horses from further afield.”

The family have been brought up with Clydesdales, and developed their passion for the breed from their grandfather Jimmy Pettigrew, a past president of the Clydesdale Horse Society. The next generation are just as keen to follow in the tradition.

Lyndsay, along with her brother Stewart (12) will compete in the Young Handlers competition on 27th May. Lyndsay has high hopes of adding to her awards, having already won two first prize rosettes this year.

Lyndsay explains, “Everyone is very excited for their first visit to The Northumberland County Show, and are hoping for a successful day … and that the sun shines!”

The Northumberland County Show takes place on Bank Holiday Monday, May 27th at Bywell, Near Stocksfield.
