A shearling ram led the trade at £1,020 at the Beltex Sheep Society’s official sale at Thame with Bicester Sheep Fair on Friday 2 August.
The reserve male champion Freckleton Sinbad was the sale leader at £1,020, and sold to R Richins, Marston, Oxfordshire. Sired by Callacrag Nightrider and out of a homebred ewe, the 16 month old Sinbad was bred by V J and M L Roots, Southam, Warwickshire. The same breeders took a bid of £940 from W Lambourne and Sons, Bicester, Oxfordshire, for Freckleton Shadow, the 16 month old male champion by Freckleton Kerron.

Messrs Roots' third best price of £740 was paid for the Ballydown Playboy sired Freckleton Sultan, a 15 month old shearling ram secured by J W Peacock, Deopham, Norfolk. The same aged Freckleton Samson, also from Messrs Roots, went for a call of £720 to T G Levinge, Staines, Middlesex. This one was by Dooley Lanark and out of a Freckleton ewe.

Messrs Roots also headed the Beltex female section at £365 with Freckleton
Sloan, by Callacrag Nightrider and out of a homebred ewe. This 16 month
old shearling ewe was purchased by M G Tomlinson, Kilburn, Derbyshire,
who bid a further £355 to secure the female champion, a Ballydown Playboy
sired Freckleton shearling ewe of the same age.
Freckleton Stow sold for £360 to F and S M Stamper, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.
Also from Messrs Root’s flock, this 15 month old shearling ewe was another
Playboy daughter, and was to be joined at Messrs Stamper’s flock by
the same sired Freckleton Selma at £340, also 15 months old.
