Longtown Primestock Sale
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 1,669 prime lambs and 2,549 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 4th July 2019.

Cast cows again selling at recent high rates, with more required on a weekly basis to fulfill buyer demand. Sale topped at 121p for Angus cows shown by RJ Anderson & Penchrise, Hawick. Top price per head of £910.60 for a British Blue from GW Dinnin, Nether Albie, Waterbeck.
1,669 spring lambs were forward in less numbers. Quality was again excellent with a large company of buyers all keen for supplies. Trade was dearer than expected with numbers short of requirements.

Top price per kilo of 265p for Cheviot lambs shown by C Saunders, Barr Hill, Newton Stewart and top price per head of £119 also for Texels lambs from TA Jefferson, Aspatria Hall, Aspatria.

All classes of the 2,549 cast ewes, rams and hoggs were far short of requirements with prices up £5 on the week to average £77.84 overall. Best Texel and Beltex ewes regularly making £140 to £160 plus. 333 ewes sold at £100 and over to average £120.11, again many more could have been sold to vendors advantage.
Sale topped at £168 for Texel ewes shown by KD & DE Millar & Partners, Crookholm, Canonbie and from J Runciman & Sons, Allanshaws, Stow. Hill ewes to £74 for Cheviots from A & C Watson, Sanderson House, Whitehaven and rams sold to £136 for Texels from Messrs Barrow, Powheads, Wigton.
