The Ernevale Herd has enjoyed tremendous show ring success in recent years, winning the Holstein and interbreed dairy championships at Armagh Show, followed by the All-Ireland Dairy Championship at Enniskillen Show in 2012.

Seamus Gunn and family also won second prize in the junior section (small herd) of Holstein NI’s 2013 Ulster Bank-sponsored Herds Inspection Competition. The well-known Rosina family won the award for the best cow family.

The Ernevale Herd has also savoured success in the Breffni Oriel Club’s Herd Competition, moving from the senior to elite herd category in 2012.

The Rosina family originates from the noted Templedale Rosina cow family in Quebec, Canada, and was introduced to the herd with the importation of embryos.

Over the years the Rosina family has flourished at Ernevale, becoming the backbone of the 40-cow milking herd.

The catalogue for the forthcoming sale includes 12 members of the Rosina family, and many other hot prospects for the future.

On offer is Ernevale Lavanguard Rosina (lot 19), winner of the Holstein maiden heifer championship at Armagh Show, and junior champion heifer at Omagh Show in 2013. Her dam is an EX classified Picston Shottle, while her granddam is an EX93-3E Pursuit September Storm daughter. Her third dam is the famous Ernevale MJ Rosina EX95-8E who produced an average of 13,955kgs at 4.50% butterfat and 3.65% protein in eight 305-day lactations.

Already a winner in the show ring Ernevale Stanleycup Rosina (lot 27) represents very modern genetics from the great Rosina family. She was a class winner at Enniskillen Show in August, and is a daughter of Gillette Stanleycup. Her VG89 Goldwyn dam is a maternal sister to the Ernevale herd’s three-times Enniskillen Show champion Ernevale MJ Rosina (EX95-8E), and two other EX classified cows.

Another eye-catching heifer with a deep pedigree is Ernevale Destry Lulu Red (lot 10), bred from nine generations of VG and EX dams, from the world-famous Hanoverhill Lulu family. This true red heifer was junior champion at Enniskillen Show, and interbreed maiden dairy heifer champion at Clogher Valley Show. She is full of promise for the future.

A great prospect for the 2014 show circuit is the August 2012 born Ernevale Merchant Vito (lot 23). She is backed by 11 generations of VG and EX cows, and traces back to some very famous Canadian prefixes including Calbrett, Berkshire-Valley and Hilltop-Hanover. Sired by Altagen Merchant, this deep ribbed, wide rumped heifer has outstanding udder promise, and sells ready to flush.

Another impressive spring-born calf, and one with eye-catching style and strong future prospects, is Ernevale Destry Triuna (lot 31). Sired by Scientific Destry, she is backed by the world-famous Wilsondale Triuna family, with eight of her closest nine generations being VG and EX.
