On Wednesday 10th April, Harrison & Hetherington will be hosting the UK’s largest sale of Holstein Bulls as part of its Annual Border & Lakeland Spring Bull Sale at its Borderway Sales Centre.

This is a unique chance for farmers to select from the best herds in the country; whether they are looking for bulls to improve breeding, fertility or milk yield, organisers are confident buyers will find a bull to suit their requirements.

During the sale at least 80 pedigree Holstein and British Friesian Bulls will pass through the show ring making this the best offering of Elite dairy bulls ever offered at the event. The cattle for sale are truly an A-Z of the UK’s best in breed and herds represented from the Annandale herd from The Milton near Beattock to the Wormanby herd from Burgh-by-Sands.

Harrison & Hetherington Auctioneer Glyn Lucas explains, “Dairy farmers the world over have one thing in common they all want to milk trouble free cows with great udders and they want their cows to live a long and healthy lives. We are delighted that we can offer such a choice of sires and outcross sires. Whatever traits and characteristics farmers and breeders are looking to improve, there will be a bull that will enhance their herd.”

No doubt creating a lot of interest this year will be the three bulls from the Berryholme herd near Kendal, home to the famous Flo family. The Wright family have built up the herd since purchasing Holmalnd Storm Flo, a granddaughter of the award winning Cardsland Eclipse Flo EX96-2E in 1999. Classified Excellent 94, she went on to produce over one hundred tons of milk at over 4.5% butterfat and was National Champion in 2003.

Flo has passed these incredible traits to many of her offspring which has been a major factor in creating this herd. Owner David Wright explains, “Our farm is not the idea dairy farm, our cows need to be able to walk long distances on steep slopes and we have long winters however the Flo family has flourishes on our farm because they are naturally robust and have a fantastic will to live.”

At the sale, the family will be selling two full brothers sired by Pine-Tree Sid selling from Berryhome Posh Flo a full sister to Berryhome Shottle Flo EX93 who won the National in 2010. Posh Flo recently classified Excellent 94 and gave 10,150kg 4.67% butterfat; she is the ideal British cow and is considered by many to be the latest star of the legendary Flo family.

Alongside the Flo family, Elite dairy bulls for sale will include sons from Rainyridge Talent Barbara EX95, Golden-Oaks Paer Rae EX90(POLLED), Berryholme Shottle Flo EX93, Warnelview Goldwyn Ruby 2 EX94, Overside Convincer Delight EX93, Feizor Shottle L Melody EX92, Denmire Gibson Marie 22 EX94 & Wormanby Talent Glorriette EX93.
