Five Houses Farm Shop and Kitchen Launch Announced

Kitson & Sons Butchers’ brand-new Five Houses Farm Shop and Kitchen in Crathorne will open its doors to the public for the first time on Friday September 8.

As well as a state-of-the-art butchery, the new multi-purpose, multi-milion pound development adjoining the A19 near Yarm incorporates an on-site cafe/restaurant.

The project has transformed a Grade II listed quadrant farm building at Five Houses Farm on the Crathorne Estate. It represents by far the biggest investment ever made by Kitson & Sons, one of the north’s longest established butchers, with roots stretching as far back as 1693.

“It will generate up to 30 new jobs for local people and we expect to achieve annual sales in the region of £2 million,” said Kitson & Sons’ owner Anthony Kitson.

Five Houses Farm Shop and Kitchen supplements Kitson & Sons Butchers’ three existing shops in High Street, Northallerton, Stephenson Way, Stockton-on-Tees, and North End, Hutton Rudby.

“We will be selling a far greater and wider range of food and drink products at the new farm shop. Our aim has been to create a one-stop-shop offering the very best seasonal produce, like our other shops locally sourced wherever possible in support of local farmers and other local producers. We are particularly keen to display and sell products from artisan producers right across the region.

“Everything will be made from scratch in Five Houses Kitchen, our new cafe/restaurant, using everyday produce that can be bought from the farm shop,” explained Mr Kitson.

Kitson & Sons Butchers was recently crowned champion sausage maker at the Camp Hill Sausage and Beer Festival in Kirklington, near Bedale, with its Five Houses Yorkshire Delight Sausage - a brand-new banger created purposely to mark the launch of the new food hall, which will go on sale for the first time when the doors open.

Mr Kitson also announced that plans were being made for an official opening ceremony of Five Houses Farm Shop and Kitchen towards the end of September or early October, when one lucky customer will have the opportunity to become a celebrity for the day.

“We want to get everything just right before we stage an official launch. Our customers are our lifeblood – some of them have been shopping with us for generations - and we will be running an easy-to-enter competition in all four of our shops, when the lucky winner will be invited along to declare Five Houses Farm Shop and Kitchen well and truly open!” said Mr Kitson.
