Stirling Simmental Averages Fall Again

A mainly commercial trade for Simmental Bulls at Stirling on Monday 16th February saw averages fall £303 on the year for 10 more bulls sold to level at £4,964.

This follows a tumble of £398 in 2014 compared to the previous year. However, trade hit 12,000gns on two occasions. Joint sale leader was the overall champion Derrycallaghan Ernest from HC Stubbs and AA Burleigh. The youngest bull in the sale, born December 2013 he is by Kilbride Farm Newry and is out of Derrycallaghan Beauty. Judge, Society Council member Michael Barlow purchased his champion for his Denizes herd.

Also making 12,000gns was Corskie Elgin, a second prize winner from Society President Iain Green that sold to GL Clark, Auchtermuchty, Cupar. May 2013 born Greencap Ace son is out of Corskie Amaryllis.

Next best at 10,500gns was Woodhall Enfield. This second prize winner from H MacAskill writing this cheque was was A and D Clark, Orkney.

Three bulls then made 10,000gns, the first being the senior and reserve overall champion Corskie Envoy again from Iain Green and selling to I Wilson, Torphins, Aberdeenshire. Kilbride Farm Emperor from W H Robson and Sons traded at 10,000gns to Messrs Wood, Orkney. Late in the sale A King sold Wolfstar Elusive at 10,000gns to W S Stronach and Partners, Keith.

Drumlone Engineer, the reserve intermediate champion from K C Veitch traded at 9500gns to J Innes and Sons, Huntly, Aberdeenshire.

Making 9000gns was first prize winner Drumsleed Exodus from G W Smith. Buyer here was W A Galloway and Son, Newton Stewart.

At the same money was Messrs Cowan’s Owenskerry Excellent who travels to Northumberland with L Forster and Son, Hexham.

The reserve senior champion Dirnanean Eskimo from F J A McGowan was knocked down at 8800gns to Van Der Gucht, Gloucestershire.

Kilbride Farm Esquire from W H Robson and Sons was purchased by H J Warnock, Newtonards, for 8500gns. Close behind that at 8200gns was Islavale Eli from W Stronach he sold to R Garden, Echt, Aberdeenshire.

Three bulls made 8000gns, first was Skerrington Esquire from W Young he was purchased by D Cleland, Hereford.

Intermediate champion Corrick Extreme from C McIlwaine made 8000gns when he was purchased by M Meldrum, Ballindalloch, Banffshire. Also making 8000gns was Woodhall Earl, from H MacAskill he sold to D Leslie, Elgin.

After the sale it is understood that British Simmental Breed Society chief executive Neil Shand, who resigned from his post last year and then re-applied for his "old job" back was said to be “absolutely delighted” with the trade.
