New Orbis has more Bite for Short Maize

Claas is expanding its range of row-independent maize headers for the Jaguar self-propelled forage harvester with another 6.0 m model, which has been specially designed for harvesting small to medium crops.

The ORBIS series has so far included the four ORBIS models 450 / 600 / 750 / 900 which have working widths of between 4.5 and 9.0 m. The 6.0 m wide ORBIS 600 is the top-selling model and is used around the world in the widest variety of crop conditions. Now, a second 6.0 m model has been added to the ORBIS series: the new ORBIS 600 SD (SD = small disc).

Orbis 600 SD

The familiar ORBIS 600 is fitted with four large discs and is particularly suited to harvesting medium-height and extremely high-growing maize crops. The new ORBIS 600 SD has six discs, with the two large outer discs each replaced by two smaller discs and two additional feed drums.

This concept of the combination of small and large discs has already been proven in the ORBIS 450, 750 and 900 models and is especially good when harvesting poor maize harvests with only low or medium-height growth, or when harvesting short maize varieties. The smaller discs, together with the feed drums, provide a constant crop flow and a high level of operational reliability, even with short plants. The two tried-and-tested large discs are installed in the centre, as in all ORBIS headers. These large discs provide a distinct functional benefit. Low starting torques allow you to engage and reverse under full load without any problems.

Like all other models, the new ORBIS 600 SD is characterised by a low axle load, optimum visibility and a low power requirement. The extremely short structure facilitates simple manoeuvring and ensures excellent handling ability, even when cornering tightly. For road travel the side units are folded vertically to a width of 3.0 m.

Like the previous ORBIS models, the new model has the option of being equipped with the electro-hydraulically-driven AUTO CONTOUR, for optimum ground contour following. The standard equipment on the attachment comprises a mechanical pendulum frame. To coordinate the feed rate and desired length of cut, all models are available with a standard or three-speed transmission.

Furthermore, all options for functional optimisation, such as down-crop augers, down-crop equipment as well as AUTO PILOT, wear skids and a skid cover, are available for the ORBIS 600 SD.

The new ORBIS 600 SD is available from the financial year 2015 for JAGUAR models in the 800 and 900 series. The familiar ORBIS 600 with its four equal-sized discs remains part of the product range. Thus, CLAAS offers optimum choice for the customer in this most popular sector.
