Two New McCormick Tractor Ranges in the Spotlight

The transformation of the McCormick tractor range shifts up a gear at the Cereals Event when the new ranges will be under the spotlight.

McCormick distributor AgriArgo UK is launching to the arable sector:

  • the all-new X4 series, a small-size tractor with a big spec sheet reflecting the wide choice of transmissions available for the 90-107hp machines;

  • the all-new X7 Pro Drive high-end arable tractor with four- and six-cylinder engines delivering rated power outputs from 131hp, climbing to a max output of 212hp with power management.

“We have a big story to tell with our new tractors and the Cereals Event is the place to do that for the arable sector,” says Ray Spinks, general manager and sales director at AgriArgo UK. “With the new McCormick X4 Synchro and Power Shuttle, and the X7 Pro Drive tractors joining the X50 range, we’re well underway with the introduction of up to eight new product lines over the next two to three years.”

The McCormick X4 series represents a new product category for the marque, being a light-weight tractor with a big heart.

“It’s an all-new design with a remarkable choice of eight individual transmission configurations to suit every application,” notes McCormick product specialist, Paul Wade. “Together with standard or high-flow hydraulics, different pto configurations and a new cab providing spacious and stylish accommodation for the operator, the X4 represents an attractive, modern package.”

Three models will be available initially and all feature Deutz engines for the first time in a McCormick. The compact four-cylinder diesel is tuned for rated speed outputs of 85hp, 95hp and 102hp, growing to peak at 90hp, 99hp and 107hp for lively performance with great economy as engine revs are pulled down under load.

In the transmission department, there is a choice of easy-shifting synchro shuttle or fingertip-shifting power shuttle and 12x12 or 24x24 with Hi-Lo gear arrangements. An over-drive option gives 40kph at reduced revs to save fuel.

A creep gearbox provides 16x16 and 32x32 speeds with extra-low ratios for specialist field tasks, and there are standard and ‘eco’ versions of the two-speed pto, plus optional ground speed drive.

The Standard and Hi-Flow gear pump hydraulics, with 44- and 57-litre/min outputs, are supplemented by a dedicated 32-litre/min steering pump for a McCormick front axle that can have built-in brakes for added security during road travel. Hydraulic lift capacity is 2900kg standard, 3200kg with assister rams.

The all-new McCormick X7 Pro Drive tractors will also make their Cereals Event debut having generated great interest amongst farmers as demonstration units have arrived at dealers over the past few weeks.

The range represents an important shift in design, specification and technology for the marque, which is particularly evident in the new Premiere cab where modern electronic controls meet the expectations of drivers wanting fingertip operation of important functions.

Two examples of imaginative design and engineering are the MySwitch multi-function button on the seat-mounted console and the fold-away passenger seat.

The MySwitch button is used to perform any of four different functions – transmission declutch, four-wheel drive, diff locks and auto powershift. Together with a simple ‘adjust and set’ system for occasional adjustments using a dial and instrument panel display, MySwitch helps keep the number of individual control switches, buttons and dials to a minimum.

“Many operators like previous McCormick tractors because of their relative simplicity and ease of control,” says Ray Spinks. “The X7 designers have achieved similar levels of simplicity while delivering modern electronic control and many more functions into the cab.”

The ingenious passenger seat is unique in the way it folds away out of sight, leaving a clear, smooth entry and exit for the cabin. The Premiere cab itself is a new design; the four-pillar structure is 180mm wider between the front pillars and the doors shut with a gentle push thanks to high-spec latches and adjustable hinges.

“The fit and finish, and the interior materials used are to automotive standards, with a seat-mounted console bringing all routinely used controls close to the driver,” points out product specialist Paul Wade. “The designers really have pulled out all the stops to make this a comfortable and practical place to work.”

The range comprises a trio of four and six-cylinder models with power outputs starting with 131hp at rated speed, 143hp max from the X7.440 Pro Drive climbing to 188hp draft max and 212hp pto max from the X7.680 Pro Drive.

All have a 24x24-speed transmission as standard – 40x40 with creep – with Auto-shifting and other automated control features available.

Cab suspension and the popular McCormick independent front axle suspension are also available, together with 50kph and air trailer braking for safe and secure road transport.
