Demonstration Event to Preview New Kuhn Grassland Machinery

Kuhn Farm Machinery is teaming up with Chandlers (Farm Equipment) Ltd to demonstrate a range of grassland equipment on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th May by kind permission of Chris and David Dewes, The Pasture Fields, Lutterworth Road, Cosby, Leicestershire, LE9 1RH.

The machinery demonstrations will take place between 10am and 4pm on both days and will give visitors the chance to see a range of Kuhn mowers, tedders, rakes, balers and bale wrappers in operation. The event will also highlight a range of new tractors and telescopic handlers.

The latest Kuhn mower
Amongst the range of grassland equipment on show will be Kuhn’s latest mower – the 3.1 metre FC 3160 TCD. Featuring Kuhn’s centre pivot design, the new FC 3160 TCD can be operated on either side of the tractor, or in conjunction with a front mounted mower for improved productivity and reduced ‘dead time’.

Centre pivot machines offer significant operational advantages over their more commonly used side-pull counterparts by virtually eliminating the ‘dead time’ spent travelling at the headlands, thereby reducing the working time for each field by as much as 15%.

Reducing traffic on headlands also prevents the flattening of headland swaths and can contribute to a reduction in soil compaction and soil contamination on the headlands, all of which leads to the production of better silage.

New bale wrapper
Kuhn will also use the event at Cosby to demonstrate the RW1400 – a trailed, self-loading round bale turntable wrapper which offers users a fast and cost effective bale wrapping solution thanks to the use of Kuhn’s patented e-Twin film distribution system.

The e-Twin system applies two layers of film simultaneously, thereby reducing the amount of labour and fuel required to wrap a bale by up to 50%. The system makes further cost savings by pre-stretching the film by up to 90% so that one roll of film can cover a larger number of bales.

Applying two layers of film together also has the added advantage of creating one thicker layer of film for better tear resistance.

Large grass rakes
The demo days will also give visitors the chance to see Kuhn’s GA 8713 Gyrorake in action. This semi-mounted twin rotor machine is available in widths ranging from 5.5 to 9.3 metres and has been developed to provide the performance and reliability required for UK-specific conditions.

The GA’s patented Masterdrive two stage gearbox is a key attribute on the new machine, using bevel and ‘spur gear’ reduction – a feature that is exclusive to Kuhn Gyrorakes and is a significant factor in their reliability and suitability for intensive work. The gearbox is totally enclosed for minimal maintenance and – with no crown wheel and pinion – it is designed for reliability under heavy workloads, with reduced potential for wear and lower risk of breakdowns.
