Beltex sheep met a strong commercial demand peaking at 1,700gns in Worcester on Friday 6 September at the breed society’s annual show and sale.
First lot in the ring to come under the hammer sold and to literally lead the trade at 1,700gns was the day’s male and overall champion, a two year old ram Freckleton Rodney by Artnagullion Niarga from VJ and ML Roots, Southam, Warwick. The buyer was RG Hughes, Caersws.

The Roots family also enjoyed success in the yearling ram section with their
homebred Freckleton Sparticus by Freckleton Kerron selling for 780gns to S
Amoss, Manningtree.
Next at 910gns was Hackney Standard, a yearling ram by the 2,000gns Kingledores
Rockstar from Paul Tippetts, Shifnal to DS Wadland, Aston le Walls, Daventry.
At 640gns, the same vendor offered Hackney Scotty, another Rockstar sired
yearling ram to EA Matthews, Egerton, Ashford.
Later in the day, Kingledores Rockstar daughters from Mr Tippetts attracted
the money in the shearling ewe section. Hackney Spring made 680gns to Somerset
buyer, JA Hopkins, Lymshan while two lots shared a 610gns bid; Hackney Sunday
sold to J Hibberd, Lower Brailes, Banbury, whilst Hackney Showbiz was knocked
down sold to R Cork, Albrighton.
A bid of 800gns secured Pigot Smart Arse for R Bond, Blackawton, Totnes. Sired
by Ainstable Patrick this yearling ram was from Messrs Jones and Roberts,
St Clears. Minutes before the partnership were among the leaders with homebred
yearling rams by the 3,000gns Matt’s Playboy. Trade was led at 760gns by Cynin
Streetwise to DS Wadland, who also paid 600gns for Cynin Stud.
Two Matt’s Playboy sons shared a 720gns bid; Cynin Scooby Doo went
to DGT Jones, Felingwm, Carmarthen, whilst Cynin Shamrock was secured
by RW Fenemore, Tingewick, Buckingham who also bid 660gns for Cynin
Supreme. GG Sevenoaks, Llwyndu, Abergavenny went to 650gns for Cynin
Streaker, Cynin Showman was sold for 640gns to NB Harland, Walcot, Scunthorpe
whilst Hartpury College, Gloucester paid 600gns for Cynin Sugar Daddy.
The ram lamb section was led at 720gns by the reserve male champion,
Bishops Trojan, a ram lamb by Woddies Showstopper from Andrew Bishop,
Eldersfield, Gloucester to Madders and John, Hopton, Stafford.
Much She’s A Cracker topped the yearling ewe section at 760gns. Bred
and exhibited by E and C Jones, Dingestow, Monmouth she was knocked
down sold to ED Jones, Cottenham, Cambridge.
Ewe lambs peaked at 430gns for Headland Tiff, a Cousin Albert daughter
from Allan Jackson, Lanark to Merton Hall, Cottenham, Cambridge
