Bluefaced Leicester Sheep Association Scoops Best Breed Stand

Helen Carr-Smith the Bluefaced Leicester Sheep Breeders Association secretary was delighted that the Bluefaced Leicesters received first prize for the best sheep breed stand at the NSA Welsh sheep event held at Brili Ficer Farm, Llansawel, Llandeilo, South Wales on May 21st 2013.

There were fifty breeds represented at the Welsh sheep event which proved a popular attraction, the Bluefaced Leicester stand was very busy all day with a large number of enquiries.

Helen is from farming stock with the family farm being at Highwood Farm Hexham , she commented that “the Bluefaced Leicesters which celebrated their 50th year anniversary last year originated from Northumberland, were originally known as the Hexham Leicester and she is extremely proud to represent the association. The Bluefaced Leicester is a major player in the British sheep industry being the sire of the Mule ewe, which is the most popular commercial sheep for breeding prime lambs”

The next event Helen will be attending will be the National Sheep Association North Sheep on Wednesday June 5th at Crimple Head Farm, Beckwithsham, Harrogate, North Yorkshire which is always very popular with visitors from all sections of the sheep industry. NSA North Sheep will be building on its previous success in 2011, when the event was held at West Nubbock Farm, Hexham, with a crowd of more than 7,000 farming visitors from all parts of the UK, and 230 trade stands.
