Carlisle Aberdeen-Angus Trades at 8000gns

Trade for Aberdeen-Angus cattle at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, on Saturday 25th May saw a top price of 8000gns for the overall male champion and a 5000gns top for females for the reserve female champion.

Leading the trade was Newcastle-upon-Tyne based Alan Lawson’s senior and overall champion Hallington Julius Eric L314. By Netherallan Peter Pershore E052, this April 2011-born bull is out of the Blelack Klansman C702 daughter Hallington Jayne Erica E090, herself a daughter of Blelack Jayne Erica C773. This one carries a milk figure of +21, a TSI of +40 and a SRI of +55 and was knocked down at 8000gns to Schivas Estates, Ellon, Aberdeenshire.

Next best trading at 7000gns was the fourth place Blelack Entertainer L797 from Neil and Graeme Massie, Dinnet, Aberdeenshire. This ET-bred bull is again by Netherallan Peter Pershore E052 and is out of the Nightingale Ernie B133 daughter and 32,000gns record priced Angus female Blelack of Eyrie G197. Buyer of this one was J Walsh, Bury, Lancashire.

Then at 6800gns was the reserve junior champion Linton Gilbertines Pride M604 from Gordon Brooke, Earlston, Berwickshire. This one, which sold to M R and S K Westcott, Minehead, Somerset, was yet another ET-bred Peter Pershore son, this time out of the Idvies Jester Eric A057 daughter Lockerley Primrose E489 and carries a SRI of +61.

Back in action again was Alan Lawson, trading this time Hallington Prelude M346 for 5800gns. This was the fourth highest priced Peter Pershore son of the day and is out of a homebred Hallington Knight F123 daughter. He has a milk figure of +21, a TSI of +46 and a SRI of +59 and was knocked down to Messrs D E W Kibble and Son, Herriot, Midlothian.

Meanwhile, the pre-sale junior champion Water End Mr Blackstock M099 from Victor and Paula Dobson, Holme-on-Spalding Moor, York, went at 5300gns. By Blelack Evergreat H003 this one is out of a homebred The Moss Mr Essen D413 daughter, has a SRI of +40 and sold to Crosbie Bros, Glencaple, Dumfriesshire.

Two bulls then traded at 5000gns, the first of which was Ross Farm Co Ltd’s Rosscoe Earthquake L452. This Flodden Warden E316 son is out of the Kincardine Castle Jacobite Eric A089 daughter Craigbeck Elvira F363 and is full brother to last May’s junior champion and 6500gns Roscoe Elton. He found a new home with previous buyer Messrs Kibble.

The next at that money was Border Lyne Jake L123 from Mr and Mrs M D Story, Longtown, Cumbria. By Kincardine Castle Etive Mhor H631, he is out of a homebred Hardlawbank Blackmail C206 daughter. This one was knocked down to M J Hodgson, Penrith, Cumbria.

Next best selling at 4600gns was the second prize Haymount Wizard L183 from J and W Arnott, Kelso. This one is a Cairnton Chester Bernard J265 son out of the Lockerley Kruz Z310 daughter Haymount Wsuzza F637. He changed hands selling to A R Bell, Hawick, Roxburghshire.

In the female offering, the pre-sale reserve female champion Elliot Rosebud L279 from John Elliot Jnr, Bova-Gen, Kelso, topped at 5000gns. This Rawburn Elmer J921 daughter is out of the Rawburn Randolph F555 sired Elliot Rosebud J992 who goes back to the prolific Prairieland Rosebud 011.She has a milk figure of +17 and a SRI of +53. Buyer here was Gordon Brooke for his Linton Gilbertines herd.

Then at 4500gns was the female champion, Rawburn Lady Ruth L245 (lot 71) from the Elliot family, Roxburgh Mains, Kelso, which added to Mr Brooke’s previous purchase. This is one of the first females to be offered by the 24,000gns Lockerley Legolas G850 and is out of the Rawburn Transformer daughter Rawburn Lady Ruth z014 and carries a SRI of +55.
