Texel Shearling Ewes Sell to 2500gns at Chelford

The North West Texel Breeders Club sale of Texel females saw an eager crowd compete for the sheep on offer at Chelford on Saturday 7th January.

And it was a shearling ewe in lamb to one of last year’s dearest tups that caught the ringside’s attention and took the top bid of the sale at 2500gns.

This was a twin-born daughter of Clougher President, BGS1000079, out of a dam by Mellor Vale Krugerand, from Charlie Boden’s Sportsman’s flock, Cheshire. She sold carrying twins to 25,000gns sire Milnbank Special One, a tup bought by Mr Boden in partnership with Martin and Cyril Millar at Lanark in September.

Having stood champion in the pre-sale show this one was bought by David and Thomas Bradley Farmer for their Meon Down flock, Hampshire.

Second top call of the day was a 2000gns for the best from Peter Woof’s Stainton flock. This was an ET bred Fachell On Approval daughter, WPS1000064. She is out of a dam by Cambwell Mountain and sold in-lamb to Carran Southern Star. She went to an undisclosed North Yorkshire buyer.

Next best price of the sale was the reserve champion from the pre-sale show, this time a gimmer from David, Isla and Lisa Gray’s Tima flock, Selkirk. This one, GCT1000323, is by Springwell Kermit and out of a dam by Baltier Glory and sold with an index of 181.

A full ET sister to 7000gns tup Tima Look @ Me, this one was sold in lamb to Ettrick Sir Alan, a retained son of Knock Reebok and was taken home by Steve, Sherry and Adam Richardson for the Stonebridge flock, Barnsley.

And a full ET sister to Mr Woof’s pen leader, WPS10000065, then made 1150gns when selling to Steven and Helen Smith, Welshpool, for their Penparc flock. She was also in-lamb to Carran Southern Star.

Following that at 1000gns was more Fachell breeding, this time a gimmer from from Idris Morris’ Fachell flock, Caernarfon. This Baltier Prestige daughter, MIF1000034, is out of a dam by Pennan Miracle and sold in lamb to Milnbank Stig. She found a new home with Steve and Sarah Gibbons, Hay-on-Wye.

Averages; 15 senior ewes £345.10, 106 gimmers £514.40, five ewe lambs £462 (Marshalls).
