East of England Smithfield Festival Calf Shows
2011-12-09

This year’s inaugural East of England Smithfield Festival played host to calf shows for four breed societies, with Aberdeen-Angus, Beef Shorthorn, Red Poll and Simmental breeders all putting on quality shows of calves at the event.

Leading the way in the Aberdeen-Angus classes was
Rawburn Kinnanie L326

Rawburn Kinnanie L326

Leading the way in the Aberdeen-Angus classes was Rawburn Kinnanie L326, an April born heifer calf from Marsden Farms. She is by Rawburn Elmer and out of Rawburn Kinnannie J993. This one, was bred by John Elliott, Roxburgh Mains, Kelso.

Reserve to her was Linton Gilbertines Tillie L529 another heifer, this time a May born calf. Sired by Galawater Bentley and out of Elliot Tilly she is from Gordon Brooke’s Malton, North Yorkshire-based herd.

The champion Beef Shorthorn was Aylward Gypsy Rose 5

Aylward Gypsy Rose 5
Across in the Beef Shorthorn classes the champion was Aylward Gypsy Rose 5 from David Rutherford, Hook. This is a Tarrant Waverley daughter out of Aylward Gypsy Rose 2 and was born in March 2011.

Standing reserve here was Pode Hole Endeavour from Harry Horrell. This March-born bull calf is by this year’s Royal Highland and Great Yorkshire interbreed champion Trojan of Craigeassie and is out of Pode Hole Gypsy Zza Zza.

In the Simmental calf championship, the winner was
Storersmith Brave Heart 10

Storersmith Brave Heart 10
The Red Poll championship was taken by Nobodys Eclipse, a February-born bull calf from J Broughton. She is sired by Beasthorpe Samson and is out of Canute Wilma. In reserve spot here was a heifer calf, again from Miss Broughton. This was Nobodys Ecstasy, another by Beasthorpe Samson, she is out of Coddenham Spicegirl.

In the Simmental calf championship, the winner was Storersmith Brave Heart 10 from Messrs Smith, Uttoxeter. This September 2010 born yearling bull is an Atlow Seamus son out of Barn Lodge Starburst.

Taking the reserve honours here was yearling heifer Beabhill Beauty from R J and B E Kimber. This is an Omorga Volvo daughter out of Deerhurst Melisa.
