Bristol Aberdeen-Angus Sell to 2600gns

The reserve male champion from yesterday’s Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society sale at Bristol Livestock Centre led the day’s trade at 2600gns.

Sale leader was the February 2010-born Inkpen Proud Phoenix from Hungerford, Berkshire-based Mark and Jessica Kary. By Idvies Kojak H352 and out of the Nightingale Davey E238 daughter Inkpen Pretty Primrose G069 who goes back to Nightingale Pride Pershore E285, he stood first at the Southern Counties calf show last year and sold with a Terminal Sire Index (TSI) of +30 and a Self Replacing Index (SRI) of +40. Buyer was J and S Farming, Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Second highest on the day selling for 2500gns was the male champion, the February 2010-born Oakchurch Eagle K145 from Jeremy Price, Staunton-on-Wye, Hereford. By the homebred sire Oakchurch Dominator G035, he is out of the Dalrene Cruz 11F daughter Oakchurch Edia F032 who is out of Blackaton Evening Edia Z002 and sold to M and A Reynolds. Red Marley, Glos.

Selling at the same money was the sale leader from Narberth, Pembrokeshire-based John Biggs’ Blackacre herd reduction, the March 2006-born stock bull Rawburn Lord Rob F548. By Rawburn Transformer, he is out of the Elgar of the Moss daughter Rawburn Lady Rosie and has a TSI of +41 and a SRI of +63 and a calving ease of +10.7. He was knocked down to R G and A Pearce, Alberston.

Cornwall-based Paul and Lisa Frain then sold the April 2010-born Allabury Lord Justinprofit K010 for 1650gns. By Wedderlie Net Profit E916 and out of the Woodvale Mr Awesome E207 daughter Woodvale Lady Jane H723, he has stood reserve male champion at Okehampton Show as well as picking up a fistful of placings at other shows on the south west show circuit. Buyer here was R G Willcox, Somerset.

Leading the female offering from the Blackacre reduction was Blackacre Rosalind F160. Born March 2006, she is by Penguin Trendy boy C142 out of the Netherton Prince Olaf daughter Rosebud of Blackacre. She sold with a Rawburn Lord Rob F548-sired heifer calf at foot for 2020gns to an undisclosed buyer.

Topping the shown female offering was the overall female champion Rull Belle L132 from Ed and Claire Jones, Cullompton, Devon. At just nine months old, this Muirhall Top Deal E006 daughter out of Rull Belle D035, a Netherton royal Sovereign daughter, she caught the eye of judge Neil Brown of Hackleton Farms, who later backed his judgement by buying the heifer.

At 1580gns, the Jones’ were back in action selling the February 2008-bron Rull Blackbird H081. By Moncur Freddie C030, she is out of the V D A R New Trend 933 daughter Rull Blackbird E049 and sold having run with Rull Mr Mac J532 to T C T Williams, Cowbridge, Vale of Glamorgan.

Paul and Lisa Frain then sold Idvies Proud Irma F926, dam of the couple’s successful show heifer Allabury Proudly irresistible, for 1480gns to S Roberts, Shirenewton, Chepstow. Born May 2006, Irma is by Aynho Rossiter Eric B125 and is out of the Castle of Mey Elscot daughter Idvies Proud Irene A060.

At 1400gns, Alan and Rob Bishop then sold their March 2006-born Mollington Jauntie Erica F283 to R and E Phillips, Pembrokeshire. By Wedderlie Ebrantic C522 and out of the Nightingale Dalmigavie Y195 daughter Mollington Jauntie Erica C149, she sold suckling a bull calf by Warrenho Dalmigavie G237.

Averages: 15 cows with calves or in calf £1,344.70; 1 served heifer £1,134.00; 6 maiden heifers £1,025.50; 5 bulls £2,152.50. Blackacre reduction: 32 cows with calves or in calf £1,207.82; 8 served heifers £811.12; 1 bull £2,625.00 (McCartneys).
