The Wall Aberdeen-Angus Herd Dispersal to 11,000gns

Strong interest in the dispersal of Neil Dobson's The Wall Aberdeen-Angus herd, Newport, Shropshire, meant buyers packed the ringside at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, on Saturday resulted in a top price of 11,000gns and an average of £2563.45 for 58 cows sold.

Sale leader at the Wall dispersal was Wall Royal Lady H663, by Blelack Jury Eric C673. She sold for 11,000gns to Adrian Johnson for his Yearsley herd.

Sale leader at 11,000gns was the May 2008-born Wall Royal Lady H663. By Blelack Jury Eric C673 and out of the Wall Emperor daughter Wall Royal Lady E408, she sold with her bull calf Wall Royal Leo L837 by the 18,000gns Blelack Evor H929 and in calf again, to Adrian Johnson for his Yearsely herd, Brandsby, Yorkshire.

Next at 8000gns was the sire of the sale leader and one of the herd's two stock bulls forward for sale, Blelack Evor H929, who stood senior champion in Perth 2010 and was purchased for 18,000gns. By Netherallan

Peter Pershore E052, he is out of the Blelack Blackstock A227 daughter Blelack Evora D988 and sold with a TSI of +38, SRI of +49 and a milk figure of +12 to Neil Wattie, Alford, Aberdeenshire, for his Tonley herd. Mr Wattie later purchased an April 2008-born cow Wall Kind Pride H658, by Blelack Jury Eric C673 out of a Maplejacks Foggarty B022 daughter for 3000gns.

Second highest price of the day was the stock bull Blelack Evor H929. By Netherallan Peter Pershore E052, he sold at 8000gns to Neil Wattie for his Tonley herd, Aberdeenshire

At 6500gns was the best of the 2006-born females, Wall Kay Pride F487. This Maplejacks Foggarty B022 daughter is out of an Equidorian of Strathburn dam sold with her March-born heifer calf at foot, again by Blelack Evor H929, to Jonathan Doyle, Cookstown, Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland.

Just shy of that money at 6000gns was the April 2006-born Wall Eodesta E415, again by Foggarty and this time out of a Wall Emperor Y222 daughter. She sold with a TSI of +29 and a SRI of +42 to Alistair Clark for his Duncanziemere herd, Cumnock, Ayrshire.

The April 2005-born Wall Lady Ruth E397 then went at 5000gns. This one is a daughter of Wall Emperor Y222 out of Lady Ruth Y247 who is by Equidorian of Strathburn. She sold with a bull calf at foot, again by Blelack Evor H929, to freelance stockman and breeder Richard Rettie, Clackmannanshire.

A call of 4500gns from Ross Farms and Co, Gorebridge, Midlothian, secured Wall Equidora E399, another daughter of Emperor, this time out of a power Blade of the Wall daughter who goes back to Shade Pond Equidora W3. She sold with a heifer calf at foot.

Three females then shared a price tag of 4200gns, the first of which was Wall Pride E392, a Maplejacks Fogarty B022 daughter out of an Emperor daughter. With a bull calf at foot again by Evor, this outfit heads to Messrs M and S Wilson and Sons, Moffat, Dumfriesshire for the Newbank herd.

The next at that money was another Emperor daughter Wall Black Rose E422, an April 2005-born female out of a Panasonic V37 of Blelack dam. She sold with a heifer calf at foot by Ardrossan Admiral A2 to Andrew Hodge, Duns, Berwickshire, for his Rulesmains herd.

The final female at this money was Wall Samantha F495, a March 2006-born cow again by Foggarty, this time out of a Southolm Winchester 35T daughter. She sold with an Auldhouseburn Elijah G321 calf at foot to Charolais breeder Alasdair Houston, Dumfriesshire, for his Gretna House herd. Mr Houston also paid 3000gns for the March 2005-born Wall Kay Pride E382, a Jeremy Eric of Bridgefoot daughter out of K. Pride 2nd of the Wall. She sold with a Blelack Evor H929-sired heifer calf at foot.

Leading the maiden heifer trade was the April 2010-born Wall Black Rose K805. By Auldhouseburn Elijah G321 and out of the Wall Emperor Y22 daughter Wall Black Rose E422, this one sold for 3500gns to Messrs Neil Massie and Sons, for their Blelack herd.

At 3400gns, Jamie Rettie, Clackmannanshire, secured the April 2007-born Wall Tidy Bee G576, a daughter of Blelack Jury Eric C763 out of the Blelack Blacksmith Y291 daughter Wall Tidy Bee D315. She sold with a heifer calf at foot having recently run with Wall Eaton J684.

The February 2008-born Wall Elnora H610, by Blelack Jury Erica C673 out of a Wall emperor Y22 daughter was then sold at 3000gns to T F Jackson Farms Ltd, Bakewell, Derbyshire. She sold having recently run with Wall Pinto J733.

Averages: 58 cows served and/or suckling £2,563.45; 18 served heifers £2,178.75; 22 maiden heifers £1,386.48; 2 bulls £4,987.50 (Harrison and Hetherington).
