Harrison & Hetherington, organisers of the inaugural UK Dairy Expo announce that the clipping section of the International Dairy Youth Championships will be judged by one of the industry’s most recognised figures. This is Erica Rijneveld, from Holland, an international authority in preparing dairy cattle for the show ring.
UK Dairy Expo is being held at Borderway Exhibition Centre, Carlisle, is aimed at helping to promote and develop UK cattle breeding on a National, European and global-basis. The clipping competition parts of the event’s International Dairy Youth Championships, will take place on Friday 2nd March 2012, preceding the dairy show classes scheduled for Saturday 3rd March.
In the clipping competition, a timed event, young breeders aged between 16-25 years from several European Countries will demonstrate how they can clip and fit an animal to show-ready status. And, who better to judge this than Erica, who is renowned throughout Europe for her clipping skills and knowledge in preparing animals for the show ring.
Born in the Netherlands Erica developed her understanding and love for showing cattle at Castelverde Holsteins, Italy. Over the years, she has managed several famous show strings and has prepared numerous National Champions on an international-basis. Erica recently judged the 2011 National Showmanship and Clipping Finals in France and has also officiated in Denmark, Spain, Czech Republic and Germany.
Commenting earlier today, UK Dairy Expo Livestock coordinator Glyn Lucas said: “Erica has an immense reputation as a professional cattle fitter and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the International Dairy Youth Championships. We’re delighted Erica has agreed to be our official Youth Championship judge and everyone involved with UK Dairy Expo is looking forward to her deliberations.”
This prestigious new event being organised by Harrison & Hetherington, is aimed at both commercial and pedigree breeders. With international judges, a prize fund of £15,000, and entries coming in from all parts of the UK and Europe, the event is already set to become one of the key events of the Dairy farming Calendar.
This show begins on the Friday with the International Dairy Youth Championships and The Global Classic Sale. The focus on the Saturday is the dairy cattle classes. Featured breeds are Holstein, Jersey, Ayrshire, Red & White, Brown Swiss, Dairy Shorthorn, and British Friesian. In addition there will be in the region of 150 Trade Stands, with Commercial and Educational Exhibits, Machinery Show & Demonstrations, the latest in Dairy Technologies and Industry Seminars.
Erica operates her own business, Livestock Show Equipment, a company that markets showing and cattle grooming products. The company was formed in 1998 and today offers more than 250 different product lines throughout Europe.
As well as being a professional show handler and cattle fitter, she instructs young breeders and show enthusiasts in the art of cattle clipping, presentation and showmanship. She has run several successful clipping schools in Belgium, Spain, Netherlands, Czech Republic and Austria.
