2011-11-28

A Picston Shottle son from the noted Inch herd of Jim Morrison, Downpatrick, won the supreme championship ribbons and sold for a top price of 4,000gns at Holstein NI’s November show and sale, held at Kilrea Mart.

The champion and 4,000gns sale leader at Holstein NI's Kilrea show and sale was Inch Senior bred by Jim Morrison, Downpatrick. Included are Clarence Calderwood, United Feeds, sponsor; and Wilbert Rankin, Crumlin.

The show and sale topper was the June 2010 born Inch Senior (PLI+£127). His dam, Inch Vitus Joyce EX92 (5yr) SP, produced almost 13,000kgs at 5.13%BF and 3.28%P in her third 305-day lactation.

Judge Wilbert Rankin from Nutt’s Corner, Crumlin, described the champion as an outstanding bull. “He is well balanced and well put together, and moves on sound legs and feet,” said the former breed society president.

The champion attracted a tussle of bids from the packed ringside audience and the successful bidder was John Huey from Armoy, County Antrim.

Second highest price of the day 3,400gns, was paid to David and Austin Perry, Ahoghill, for their reserve champion.
