Wesley Charolais Peak at 10,000gns

Charolais cattle were in great demand by the packed ringside who had assembled for the Wesley Estates on-farm dispersal sale, with bids peaking at 10,000gns and cattle selling to all corners of the United Kingdom to all the major livestock producing areas, on Saturday 1 October.

Leading the dispersal was the three year old stock bull Balymle Dingle TI+60, SRI+62, sired by the 30,000gns Dingle Hofmeister he was knocked down sold at 10,000gns to N F Massie and Sons, Blelack, Aberdeenshire. Mr Massie remarked: “Dingle offers excellent figures combined with good looks and importantly he is proven within the Wesley herd. You could go up to Scotland and spend twice the price for a bull that hasn’t been proven, so for me it was a no brainer.”

Paving the way in the female section was Wesley Acute TI+45, SRI+37, a Maerdy Rock daughter, selling for 8,000gns with her six month old heifer calf Wesley Glamorous TI+45, SRI+37, sired by Balthayock Aesop, to W D Connolly, Ballynahinch, County Down.

Young bulls continued with nine month old Wesley Furnish TI+38, SRI+40, a Balthayock Aesop son, selling to 6,000gns to Mr and Mrs A White, Swanage, Dorset and eight month old Wesley Goran TI+46, SRI+46 by Balmyle Dingle going for a bid of 4,800gns to J Preece and Sons, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

British Charolais Cattle Society chief executive David Benson comments: “It was the finest sale of Charolais cattle that I’ve seen in a long time with all lots selling strongly, young stock selling particularly well and good averages reached overall.”

Averages: 40 cows with calves £5028.18, 17 cows in calf £2733.08, 17 in calf heifers £2482.94, 27 maiden heifers £2446.11, 6 bulls £4777.50.
