2010-11-24

John Deere dealers C Smart Agricultural Services Ltd and Ashworth Farm Machinery Ltd have agreed to merge their existing businesses to form one new company, covering Dorset, East Devon, Somerset and Avon.

As of November 2010, the merged business will trade as C Smart Agricultural Services Ltd, employing all the current staff, from the three existing dealership locations at Piddlehinton, near Dorchester, and at Cheddar and Nether Stowey, near Bridgwater.

“As agriculture continues to change and adapt to take advantage of greater economies of scale, so too must businesses like ours that support the industry. We believe that this merger will enhance both companies’ activities, and bring benefits to customers both new and old throughout our combined trading area,” says director James Ashworth.

“It will allow us to grow the overall business while continuing to improve upon the high standards required of a John Deere dealership, both now and even more importantly into the future,” adds director and dealer principal Colin Smart. “We aim to uphold all the virtues of a family run business, and there will be an even greater emphasis on delivering unrivalled parts and service support to all our customers.”

C Smart Agricultural Services Ltd was appointed as a John Deere dealer in October 1998, while Ashworth Farm Machinery Ltd first opened for business at Cheddar in November 2006.
