Lleyn Ewes Sell to £202 at Ruthin

With an entry of over 2,100 sheep there was another brisk trade seen at the Ruthin Lleyn sale conducted by Ruthin Farmers Auction Company Limited.

The shearling ewes saw a top price of £202. HW Wells, Glaneri, Ceridigion sold his first pen of five homebred shearling to ET Pugh. Next to top was Scottish vendor David Alexander, Millside Farm, Ayrshire with his top pen selling for £175 to CR Price while his next two pens realised £170 again to Mr Price and R Whittingham. IO & AL Jones Champion pen of females sold for £175 to EA Rogers.

Ewe Lambs topped at £138 when DW and CF Morris, Yr Ostrey, Carmarthen entered the ring with their second prize pen which were bought by AG Selway. The first prize pen shown by David Maughan for J2 Farming, Hisland, Oswestry also made a respectable £108 selling to CP Goulding. Scottish based Hamish Goldie, Southbower House, Dumfries realised £102 to Seamore Farming and JE & SB Roberts, Gwyndy, Pwllheli also sold for £102 to IO & AL Jones.

Ewes set the days trade when D & B Vaughan, Lys yr Awel sold their 3 year olds for £126 to C Williams then Beryl Morris, Llechryd, Dinbych sold her two year olds for £122 to RL Jones. Rhys W Wynne, Tyddyn, Dinbych followed with £120 also to RL Jones.

In the Ram section Dewi Ellis, Cernioge Bach, Betws Y Coed topped the price scale when selling a shearling ram for 2200gns to DA Jones. Next to top was E & D Jones, Lluest Wen, Machynlleth who sold for 2100gns & 2000gns to H & M Dugdale & Son and CP Jenkins respectfully. HM Wells also returned to the ring to sell their shearling for 1900gns to JA & R Geldard. The champion ram from Graham Fort, Brighton House, Keighley sold for 1350gns to HE Jones.
