2009-06-19

The British pig industry is standing at a crossroads following trying times. Through the difficulties many people have worked doggedly, giving their all for the benefit of the industry.

One of those people will be the recipient of a top industry honour – the David Black Award – at an industry breakfast in London in the autumn.

The award was first presented in 1960 and has since been won by people from a wide range of disciplines including producers, consultants and scientists.

It will go to the person who, in the judges’ opinion has made a substantial and lasting contribution to the British pig industry.

Once the nominations are in, a panel of independent judges from different sectors of the industry, chaired by BPEX Director Mick Sloyan, will select the winner.

Mick said: “The pig industry can boast a wealth of talent with many whose efforts are above and beyond the call of duty.

“But many of them don’t believe they are deserving of any special mention – they are just doing what needs to be done.

“It is those individuals we are seeking to be nominated for the David Black Award to let them know the whole industry acknowledges and appreciates the work they have put in.”

Nomination forms for the award can be found on the BPEX website, www.bpex.org.uk or by calling 01908 844368.
