CLAAS at Grassland UK 2009
2009-03-27

A number of new additions to the CLAAS product range will be making their UK working debut at this year’s Grassland UK event on May 7th, including the widest tractor-mounted mower on the market.

CLAAS UK will be using the event to display and demonstrate a wide range of equipment from its extensive green harvest product range. Whilst high output contractors equipment will inevitably steal the limelight, in line with the ‘Little & Large’ theme these will be balanced by smaller machines in the range that will be ideal for farmers looking for a simple, small mower or rake.

Widest tractor mounted mower

Making its UK debut at Grassland UK will be the new DISCO 9300C Contour triple mower conditioner, which will be working on a 388hp XERION 3800 with reversible cab. With a working width of 9.10m, the new DISCO 9300C Contour is the widest triple mower on the market and is one of four new CLAAS triple mower combinations to be launched this year.

The DISCO 9300C Contour uses two 3.45m wide mowing units for the outer sections in combination with a 3.00m centre mower unit. In order to reduce weight loading and compaction, the mower is designed so that it is mounted as close to the tractor as possible. In addition, thanks to the use of modern lightweight high-strength materials, the overall weight is no greater that the existing 8.10m wide DISCO 8550C.

CLAAS will also be demonstrating the new 3.00m wide DISCO 3100TC centre pivot mower. Unlike other pivot mowers on the market that only use a single hydraulic ram, the DISCO 3100TC is unique in that it has two single-acting rams fitted on either side of the drawbar. In addition, the maximum ram extension length can be altered, to alter the pivot angle of the mower, so allowing the working width to be adjusted to accurately match the tractor’s track width. The mowing unit is mounted on a parallelogram linkage that pulls the unit, rather than pushing it, for a cleaner finish.

Balancing these will be one of the smallest mowers in the CLAAS range, the 2.50m wide DISCO 250 and the 2.70m wide DISCO 2700 Contour.

Likewise when it comes to tedders, CLAAS will have on display both their widest tedder, the 13.20m wide 10 rotor VOLTO 1320T and the smallest – the 5.20m wide 4 rotor VOLTO 52.

For baling, five CLAAS balers will be on display, ranging from the smallest ROLLANT 340RF through to the high capacity twin-axle QUADRANT 3200 Roto Feed big square baler.

Completing the harvesting line-up will be the latest 507hp JAGUAR 950 and 412hp JAGUAR 850 Profistar, plus a QUANTUM 5700P forage wagon.

AXOS tractor working debut

In addition to the new mowers, also making their UK working debut powering some of the smaller equipment will be the new CLAAS AXOS tractor, which comprises three levels of specification and power outputs ranging from75hp to 102hp.

On the clamp, CLAAS will be demonstrating two options, a SCORPION 7040 alongside which will be working a 233hp AXION 850 with front-mounted buckrake for those looking for a higher capacity.
