Longtown Primestock Sale

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 71 prime cattle, 31 OTM cattle, 6,088 prime hoggs and 4,747 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 3rd April, 2008.

Prime cattle were short of requirements with trade remaining at recent high rates for a poorer show of cattle. Top price of 166.5p for a Limousin steer from J C & D Nicholson, The Gill and purchased by M Wharton, Butcher. Another large show of hoggs were on offer to the usual ring of buyers. The overall quality was not as good as last weeks but well finished hoggs selling at late rates to a top of 179p for a pen of Texels from Clonrae.
