Longtown Primestock Sale
18/10/07

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 53 prime cattle, 2 young bulls, 11 Over Thirty Month (OTM) cattle, 3,393 prime lambs and 3,974 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 18th October, 2007.

A small show of prime cattle were forward and with all buyers present some cattle were showing signs of weathering. Top price was 133.5p for a Limousin heifer from Messrs Ritson, Swaites others to 128.5p Hallees, 126.5p Swaites. 125.5p, 123.5p Hallees. Blonde heifers 130.5p, 127.5p Brisco Hill, Charolais 121.5p Sceughdyke.

A small show of OTM cattle with well fleshed cows selling to 76.5p for Simmentals from Arkleton, Charolais to 66.5p Clement Leazes, Luing 66.5p Arkleton, Angus 51.5p Clement Leazes, Holstein Friesians 51.5p Windy Hill and Rowanburnfoot.

The prime lambs sold to a top of £40 for Texel lambs from T N Cavers & Co, Sorbie, and to 97.2p for Texels from J P Fraser, Sunnyside. Suffolks £39.20 Sceughdyke, £39 Reagill Grange, Cheviots £35 Sorbietrees, Other Texels £39.80 Heithat, £38 Unity, Charollais £37.80 Leona Villa, £36 Rottington Hall, Greyfaces £33.80 Miller Hill, £32.80 Parkside, £32.80 Crawfordjohnmill.

Lightweight lambs sold well to a top of £35 for Suffolks from J Fleming, Barnglieshead, Cheviots £25.80 Meikledale, Texels £30 Newton, Blackface £27.20, £26.80 Chapelhope. North Country Cheviot £24 Naddle.

The cast ewes and rams were a good show and with all the usual buyers present, trade easily upholding pre foot and mouth prices. Top was £56.50 for heavy Texels from Stackbraes, £55.50 Oldfield, £54.50 North House, Suffolks £50.50 Milnholm, Suffolk x £47.50 Stackbraes, North Country Cheviot £49.50 Oldfield, £45.50 Croft Farm. Leicesters £38.50 Foulshiels, Beltex £50.50 Oldfield, Charollais £48.50 Croft Farm, Cheviot Mules £45.50 Hutlerburn, Greyfaces £34.50 Gibbstown, Thomasdene, £34 Hermitage.

Hill ewes to £34.50 for Cheviots from Winterhope, Blackfaces £18.50 Minsca, Swaledales £15.50 Knarr, £15 Flatt.

Rams to £50.50 for Suffolks from Morley Hill, Charollais £48.50 Croft Farm, Texels £46.50 Mossband Hall, Leicesters £33.50 East Foreshields, Cheviot £32.50 Carlenrigg, Blackfaces £25.50 Silloans, Swaledales £23.50 Baileymill.
