England’s premier agricultural event, which runs from Tuesday 10 to Thursday 12 July 2012, is launching a new shearing contest for the over 50s.

The veterans class, planned for Thursday 12 July, will see competitors shear five sheep and be judged according to BISCA (British Isles Shearing Competition Association) rules.

Bob Richardson, Chief Sheep Steward, said the new competition is a first for the Great Yorkshire Show. “We would like to encourage veterans over the age of 50 to come forward – as well as prize money, there is the prestige of winning a class at the Great Yorkshire Show, “ he said.

Anyone wanting to enter should contact Bob Richardson, Chief Sheep Shearing Steward on 01964 542234, who is co-ordinating the entries.
