The Glendale Show, one of the largest shows in Northumberland will be held this year on Bank Holiday, Monday the 27th of August.

The concept of the Shetland Pony Grand National was initially brought to life by famous BBC Equestrian Commentator, Raymond Brooks-Ward. Competitors battle to qualify at the Summer Agricultural Shows in order to win a place at the International Horse Show in December.

Karen Smiter from The Shetland Pony Grand National commented on what those attending the show could expect;

“For those of you who have not come across this spectacle before, this is a fabulous display of pony racing over miniature steeplechase fences, a high speed dash, a blur of coloured silks, flying manes and tails and the roar of the crowd – the excitement of a day at the races condensed to Shetland Pony style.”

As well as being a spectacle, over the past twenty years The Shetland Pony Grand National has raised over £250,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Rachael Smith for the Glendale Agricultural Society is very excited about this highly sought and very exciting new comer to the Show;

“The main ring attractions are always one of the highlights of the show and we are delighted to have the Shetland Pony Grand National. We will be announcing our other main ring attractions in the next couple of months and we are expecting some very exciting showcases”.

The Glendale Show set in the shadow of the Cheviot Hills will as always feature extensive livestock and equine classes and also the fantastic displays in the Horticultural and Industrial Sections. There is something there for everyone and the show field will be packed with a diversity of attractions.

There will be in the region of 200 trade stands including a specialty food marquee, horticultural and industrial classes, crafts, country pursuits, entertainment for children and the main arena attractions throughout the day.

All of the events organised by the Society would not be at possible without some very important partners, sponsors and individuals. For decades now Lilburn Estates have been a huge supporter of the Society, not only do they provide the venue for The Glendale Show and The Children’s Countryside Day, they provide Manpower, Machine Power and Storage.

Rachael is very keen to reiterate the importance of this support: “In this current economic climate we are fully aware that sponsorship is more difficult, however I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who does help with supporting us both in time and money. The Glendale Agricultural Society is a not-for-profit organisation, thereforewithout financial assistance and volunteers, the Show would certainly not be where it is today. “

The Show is the largest event in North Northumberland attracting in the region of 14,000 visitors. It is a showcase event for the rural life and an event that is growing from strength to strength and the aim of The Glendale Agricultural Society is to continue to build on this.
