Semex Capitalises on Genomics Success

To celebrate its phenomenal success in the genomic sire rankings, with ten sires in the top 14 positions, Semex UK is offering one of its highest ranking bulls at an exceptional offer price to UK farmers – but for a limited period.

The promotion is to encourage more farmers to include genomic young sires as part of their genetic strategy now that the UK rankings have been published.

The sire on offer - Denmire Merchandise – is a Manifold son out of the UK bred Denmire Goldwyn Marie 102, and is already an international sire of sons. He has a tremendous predicted PLI of £226, achieved through high milk figures (+689kg) with good fat (+32.7kg) and protein (+20.9kg), an impressive fertility index of +2.8, and a very low somatic cell score of -19. He is ranked fourth in the genomic UK sire PLI rankings.

“Merchandise is an extremely promising genomic sire, and one that anyone looking for great production, health and fertility traits should seriously consider,” says Willie Tait, Semex UK’s genetics manager. “His genomic type predictions are also good in all the right areas, as would be expected from crossing Manifold with Goldwyn. He scores well for feet & legs and udders and should breed a medium-sized, stronger, long-lasting cow”.

UK Holstein breeders can take advantage of the special offer by sourcing him at a special introductory price of £10, but for a limited period only.

“Semex is dominating the genomic sire rankings and is most definitely the premier provider of these bulls for UK dairy farmers,” says Willie Tait, Semex UK’s genetics manager.

“However for farmers to gain the most from genomic technology they need to use the best bulls identified by it, for their system. As always, we recommend using a group of bulls to allow maximum genetic progress while keeping risk to a minimum”.

“Our aim is to continue to dominate the genomic sector by having the best global bull sourcing and testing policy in the world, and we will match this by marketing those bulls at good value prices to our customers to enable them to capitalise on this fast moving and exciting advance in genetics.”
