Longtown Primestock Sale
2011-12-22

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 22 prime cattle, 3 young bulls, 2 over thirty month cattle, 5,436 prime lambs and 6,261 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 22nd December, 2011.



Longtown cattle ring

A very small show of prime cattle due to the time of year which saw strong bidding throughout and were dearer on the week, topping at 222.5p for a Limousin heifer from J. & N. Blaylock & Son, Hallburn with Charolais to 214.5p also from Hallburn. Limousin bullocks peaked at 200.5p from M. & G.A. Nicholson, The Lake.

Longtown sheep ring

A grand show of 5,436 prime lambs sold to a packed ring of buyers desperate for sheep before Christmas saw trade levelling at 211p per kilo for all weight ranges.

Another outstanding show of 6,261 cast ewes & rams was forward to an increased ring of buyers with trade £5 sharper on the week with all classes in demand and short of requirements for over the festive period.
