The British Limousin Cattle Society’s Autumn Limousin Show & Sale held at Dungannon on Monday 7th November 2011 realised a firm trade with bulls selling to 4,500gns and females to 3,500gns. The trade came from local commercial and pedigree producers but the bidding also saw bulls selling into Scotland and a number of heifers heading to the Republic of Ireland.
Millgate Fantastic Top price 4,500gns
Top price of the day went to Senior Male and Overall Champion, Millgate Fantastic bred by Mr M Loughran, Dunamore, Cookstown. An April 2010 born bull sired by Wilodge Vantastic and out of the homebred Malibu daughter, Millgate Vain, this stylish bull sold with a Beef Value of LM+33 at the top price of the day of 4,500gns to M Kirkland, Crawsford, Dumfries, Scotland. The same buyer purchased the second of Mr Loughran’s bulls, the 2,900gns Millgate Ferrari, another by the 42,000gns sire Wilodge Vantastic and out of the Rake Terence daughter, Ashmara Sportyspice when sporting a Beef Value of LM+36. Michael Loughran’s success here came hard on the heels of the 32,000gns achieved for Millgate Fame at the October Carlisle Bull Sale which equaled the N Irish record for a Limousin bull sold at auction.
Local judge Owen Crawford from Kircubbin, a commercial breeder who won the medium section of the NI Limousin Cattle Club’s Suckler Herd Competition in 2010 said: “The overall quality of the Limousins on show was excellent with a strength in depth throughout the classes.”
