Classic Tractor Goes Sky High
2011-10-11

Commenting on the phenomenal prices achieved at the Moor Leazes Farm dispersal sale near Lanchester County Durham on Saturday 8th October George F. White Auctioneer and Partner Tom Oates said:

“We achieved some of the highest values at a farm sale that we have ever seen with a 1974 Ford 7000 being sold for 50% more than the expected price, and a New Holland Combine selling ion excess of £51,000.”

This was a sale of two centuries, the 20th and the 21st so it attracted interest from those looking to purchase machinery to put into immediate use, and for those looking for machinery to care for and collect. Both the modern and vintage collections achieved prices way above those predicted. The Russell and Hornsby Straw Threshing Machine, in full working order, sold to an enthusiast for £1300 whilst its 21st century cousin, a New Holland Combine, went sold for £51,200.

With enthusiasts bidding from across the whole of the UK, from Cornwall to Caithness, Birmingham to Belfast, one item that created a bidding war was The Ford 7000, tractor. With the guide price being in the region of £10,000, the hammer eventually went down at, what may be a record breaking £16,000.

The Ford 7000 is iconic, and this sale demonstrated that this is a tractor that is still hugely sought after.

Other key prices included:-

  • NH T8040 Tractor £51,800
  • New Holland TF78 combine - £51,200
  • 2001 Vaderstaad 600F Rapid drill - £18,800
  • Kev PB 6F Vari Width Semi Mounted Plough - £8,300
  • Ford 8830 tractor - £14,400
  • 1979 Steiger Panther 350 bhp - £14,000
  • Marston 14t trailer - £8,800
  • JCB 310 teleporter - £49,000
  • Vaderstaad rollers - £5,300
  • Dowdeswell discs - £4,300
  • Master 10 t dryer - £4,500
  • Ford 4000 - £3,900
  • Ford 8630 - £12,100
  • Ford 8210 - £8,90

“Despite the current economic climate prices were phenomenal. And once again this was a true reflection that well maintained second hand farm machinery is sought after and in much demand.” Said however Tom Oates. However he was keen to reiterate that this was exceptional equipment:

“The Bullivant family must be congratulated on the up keep and presentation of their machinery. Without a doubt these were major factors in them receiving so much interest and such excellent results for this sale. There was a very good trade throughout, however for me the Classic Ford 7000 going for 50% more than the predicated price was the icing on the cake.”

The Moor Leazes farm dispersal sale came about as a result of the retirement of the Bullivant Family. Their outstanding 350 acre commercial arable, farm , near Lanchester, was sold by George F. White earlier this year. “And without a doubt” says Tom “this was a fantastic and fitting finale for the family, who I know were absolutely delighted with the results.”

The next sale being held by George F. White is on behalf of Dales End Farms Ltd at Bedale on 6th December. Following the successful sale of this 270 acre farm by George F. White, the dispersal sale will include a JCB, Tractors and an extensive range of dairy equipment. A full catalogue is available on www.georgefwhite.co.uk
