Cogent Twist added 21 daughters to his proof in December, with 68% classified GP or VG and offering £166 PLI. He has attracted major industry interest for his rare all-round attributes that combine great type with outstanding health and production figures – key traits that will help dairy producers boost profitability.
After securing sizeable milk cheques, Cogent Twist has an impressive production proof combined with excellent components; 517kgs milk, 0.11%F and 0.02%P.
His daughters’ conformation seamlessly teams strength and style with tremendous legs and udders, producing animals that have the ability to thrive in any environment; +1.5 type merit, +1.1 mammary, +1.6 locomotion, +1.9 legs and feet.
In addition, management traits are also an area where Cogent Twist excels; +0.1 lifespan, -13 SCC, +0.7 condition score and +1.2 temperament.
Breeder, Peter Brimacombe, Devon said: “I have two Twist’s milking which are both outstanding and milking extremely well. One is set to finish its first lactation at an impressive 11,000kgs, the other at 9,500kgs and they are two of my best heifers in the herd.”
Against a challenging economic backdrop, dairy farmers can increase the chances of getting a heifer calf by using Cogent’s sexed semen which can deliver high percentage sex ratios in excess of 90%.
Cogent Breeding’s UK sales and genetics Manager, Hugh Pocock said: ‘With the demand for milk and in calf heifers set to continue throughout 2011, coupled with the poor market value of bull calves, dairy farmers need to procure only the sexed semen that can significantly increase their chances of increasing the female herd population. Cogent Twist is an excellent addition to our sexed portfolio and is competitively priced for a top of the range bull.’
