Dr Stafford, of Silsoe Solutions UK, a Fellow of the Institution of Agricultural Engineers, Chartered Engineer and Chartered Environmentalist, has managed a number of research projects related to precision agriculture

The new Society aims to be a learned scientific society for the world community of researchers and others in the subject of precision agriculture. The concept, which started in the 1980’s and became popular with the general availability of GPS, is now considered a responsible approach to agricultural crop management.

“Networking of precision agriculture professionals around the world is so important and the new Society will help to achieve this. The Society will also help to bring together the three regional, biennial PA conferences (Europe, Asia and USA) and smooth the dissemination of new knowledge on the topic,” said Dr Stafford.

Since taking retirement from the Silsoe Research Institute, Dr Stafford has run two independent consultancies, one in computing and the other in precision agriculture – Silsoe Solutions, which provides an information service on precision agriculture, produces the Proceedings for European conferences and edits the scientific journal - Precision Agriculture, which is expected to become the house journal of the new Society.

Precision agriculture is a form of management system that aims to target agricultural inputs and operations according to soil, crop, livestock and environmental needs.
Scientific disciplines embraced by precision agriculture include soil and crop science, agronomy and engineering/technology, weed science and economics, pest and disease science, livestock management to mention a few.
