Sky’s the Limit for the UK Jersey with Cogent’s Backing
2010-06-01

In a ground breaking agreement, The Jersey Cattle Society of the UK (UK Jerseys) and Cogent Breeding Ltd are to embark on an alliance that will promote and market the UK Jersey worldwide and provide a unique, tailor-made testing programme suited to breeders’ needs.

Excitingly, UK Jerseys have reached a mutual and beneficial commercial agreement with Cogent Breeding Ltd, for the company to market and distribute semen on behalf of UK Jerseys.

In addition, Cogent, as a British company, want to support and promote the UK Jersey and are forming a joint initiative with the Society to create a reliable UK Jersey Young Sire Testing Programme to satisfy the global demand for the breed. A Jersey Young Sire Programme will establish UK proven sires tailored to the UK market and will provide reliable and sustainable data that is relevant to all systems.

Hugh Pocock, Cogent’s UK Sales and Genetics Manager feels very positive about the alliance. ‘I am looking forward to working with the UK Jersey Society and we are extremely excited by the prospect of promoting the UK Jersey to British breeders and the worldwide market,’ he says.

With the addition of UK Jerseys’ wide range of top-class bulls, Cogent’s line-up will be strengthened even further – enabling the stud to be a complete one-stop shop for all Jersey breeders, offering elite sires to suit all systems and requirements.

The UK Jerseys board feel that Cogent have the desired strengths, knowledge and attributes that can truly satisfy the Society’s ambitions. Being at the top of their game, Cogent have proven success with their ‘Visions’ Young Sire Programme and have extensive knowledge of marketing dairy breeds to the worldwide market – which is why they feel Cogent are ideal candidates to raise the bar for UK Jerseys.

Mark Taylor, UK Jerseys’ Chairman of Sales and Promotions is equally enthusiastic, explaining: “This agreement will help put the UK Jersey firmly back on the global map and bodes well for the future of the UK breed.”

UK Jerseys’ sires are being sold through Cogent Breeding Ltd as of 1 August and you can contact your local Cogent Breeding Advisor on FREEPHONE 0800 783 7258 for more information.
