The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 74 prime cattle, 2 young bulls, 32 OTM cattle, 2,460 prime hoggs and 3060 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 9th April, 2009.

All classes of clean cattle met a sharper trade with top prices of 185.5p for a Limousin bullocks from JC & D Nicholson, The Gill, others to 184.5p, 182.5p Corby Castle Estate, 183.5p Crookholm, 182.5p The Gill. Charolais bullocks 182.5p Corby Castle; Belgian Blues 179.5p Houghton House. Limousin heifers 175.5p from Wyseby Hill Cottage & Hallburn, 171.5p Gardrum. Heavyweight young bulls to 149.5p from Sceughdyke.

The Over-thirty-month cattle were forward to the usual ring of buyers and overall lacking fleshy kinds. Due to the Easter holidays there was a smaller show of hoggs. The 1721 hoggs over 36kg averaged 184.3p and the 739 over 36 kg averaged 186p. The overall sale average was 184.7p with export type hoggs 38-45kg averaging 189.5p. The sale was topped at £106.50 for Texels from Maidencoats and to 217p for Beltex from Maidencoats.
