    Farm Property Auction Exceeds Expectations

C & D Property Services offered a well equipped residential stockrearing and feeding farm known as Dykehead, Penton, Carlisle for sale by public auction on Thursday 29th June within the Memorial Hall at Longtown.

The farm extends to about 202 acres (81.75 hectares) and is situated about Carlisle and Junction 44 on the M6 Motorway. The sale also included the entitlements to the Single Payment Scheme. The property was offered for sale in Two Lots and as a Whole and was sold as a Whole for £918,000 to a local farmer. This was well in excess of the auction guide of £800,000.

Lot 1 comprised of an attractive three bedroomed farmhouse with scope to extend into the adjoining single storey traditional range, good range of traditional buildings around the original yard, a large range of modern livestock and crop storage buildings to the rear and adjoining grazing land extending to 177.07 acres (71.66 hectares). This Lot was bid to £800,000.

Lot 2 comprised of a good block of grassland extending to 25.43 acres (10.29 hectares) across the public road from Lot 1 and this was bid to £66,000 (£2,595 an acre).

The farm was then offered as a Whole when bidding started at £866,000 and increased to £918,000 before being sold at that figure.
