The Arable Group to research pesticide application
08/07/05

As part of the continuing development of The Arable Group it is now planned to establish a unit to undertake pesticide application research.

Silsoe Research Institute has been an important player in this subject area both nationally and internationally and its closure leaves a major gap.

The Arable Group is therefore planning to establish a unit that will conduct research and development in this area. It is expected that this unit will be based on the Wrest Park site. As part of this process, Professor Paul Miller, currently an employee of Silsoe Research Institute, will be joining The Arable Group with effect from 1st August 2005. Paul will be working to build a team and portfolio of research work that will maintain and further develop capabilities relating to spray application.

SRI is working closely with TAG to facilitate future access to the equipment and facilities at the Institute that relate to pesticide application research. The Trustees of Silsoe Research Institute are keen to see scientific equipment being made available for use by appropriate research enterprises and are supportive of the approach that TAG is taking.

TAG regards this as a very exciting development. It not only protects the future of vital work on spray application technology but it provides TAG and its Members with a new member of staff who is regarded as one of the leading scientists in his field, in the world.
