Blondes Bustle At Bristol

Once again the Bristol Sales Centre proved to be a noted venue for the Blonde breeders when a total clearance of stock on offer prevailed on Saturday.

Topping the sale at 3,200gns was the 23 month old bull, Blackwater Upermost from Mr & Mrs Ian Calderbank of Maldon, Essex.  Upermost, an outstanding and much admired son of Lough Harrier and out of the homebred cow Maisie who is half sister to the mother of the noted Blonde sire Blackwater Jockey.  Upermost sold carrying an EBV of BA23 to Messrs Strang Ltd for their Mandeville herd based at Salisbury.

Local breeder David Knight of Portbury, Bristol secured the next price of 2,500gns for his November 2003 born bull Doncombe Uzi.  Sired by his homebred bull Rangatira, a Blackwater Jockey son, and out of an Aveton Monet bred daughter, he sold to Mr RJ Lloyd Campion of Haslemere, Surrey.

Selling for 2,100gns was the next bull into the sale, Fronfedw Urddasol, from Mr RG Davies of Lampeter, Ceredigion.  Another November 2003 born junior bull and by Whistley Oedema out of Fronfedw Gwri bred mother, Urddasol was sold to CE & DM Dale of Preston-on-Wye, Hereford.

Another two bulls reached the 2,000gn mark in the sale.  First came Fronfedw Umaga born March 2003 and another son of Whistley Oedema from RG Davies.  He was purchased by Mr NC Roberts of Heckingham Hall, Norwich.

The other 2,000gn bull was Ystwyth United from JGP Lewis & Co of Aberystwyth, Ceredigion.  This Levant sired March born bull out of an Arlequin bred daughter was sold to Mr N Wheal of Umberleigh, Devon.

The female section created a tremendous interest and was led by the youngest heifer in the sale, Bilsington Uria, at 1,600gns.  Consigned by Peter de Giles from Ashford, Kent, this stylish heifer a Bilsington Snowdon daughter was bought by Mr GR Norman of Bridgwater, Somerset.

Society Publicity and Promotion Chairman, Mr Richard Holloway, commented that he was pleased with the quality of cattle on offer today and with the realistic prices attended for the stock.

Averages - 18 bulls £1,747.08,  7 females £1,421.25
