Beltex Females Bid to 3,200gns at Lanark

Beltex females were bid to 3,200gns at Beltex Scotland’s annual show and sale at Lanark on Saturday 8 December featuring dispersals of the Southolm and Harestanes flocks.

The top price went to the 3,200gns Horseclose Riogrand from breeder James McGarva.

The top bid of 3,200gns was made for Horseclose Riogrand, a gimmer from J A McGarva, Annan, Dumfriesshire. Riogrand, by Horseclose Power House and out of a homebred ewe, was knocked down sold to I Davidson, Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire. Mr McGarva went on to sell Horseclose Ranchero for 700gns to J Miller and Son, Luncarty, Perthshire. This gimmer was also sired by Power House and out of a Horseclose ewe.

Next a call of 2,100gns was made for the supreme champion Woodies Spot On from Stuart Wood, Westhill, Aberdeenshire. Spot On, purchased by D E Owen, Rowen, Conwy, was a ewe lamb by Glantre Norris and out of a homebred ewe. At 850gns Stuart Wood also sold the ewe lamb Woodies Splish Splash, by Ballydown Magnus and out of a Woodies ewe, to I Reid, Perth, Perthshire.

The top price from the Southolm flock dispersal, bred by J F Allan, Biggar, Lanarkshire, was 1,800gns bid for the gimmer Southolm Rozanna. This one was secured by A Jackson, Kirkfieldbank, Lanarkshire, and was by Viagrow V/d Drie Musschen and out of Headlind Maxi. The same buyer bid 1,100gns for the gimmer Southolm Rushy, also by the Viagrow sire and out of Headlind Maria. Four year old ewe Headlind Maria, consigned from the same dispersal and bred by Mr Jackson, buyer of the two previous lots, sold for 780gns. She was by Phenomenal V/H Groentenhof and out of a Southolm ewe and was sold to R Hamilton, Strathaven, Lanarkshire.

The reserve champion Lugate Rhianna sold for 1,100gns. Rhianna, by Burnside Phenomenon and out of Brickrow Missy Moss, was bred by S McCormack, West Linton, Tweeddale, and purchased by R Flaws, Evie, Orkney. Mr McCormack took 950gns for a same way bred Lugate gimmer, selling to M Munro, Lairg, Sutherland.

Mr Flaws also invested 1,000gns in the gimmer Orkney Ritch Girl, by Forglen and out of a homebred ewe, from A and V Copland, Harray, Orkney. The same breeder took 700gns from A M Jennings, Kendal, Cumbria, for the gimmer Orkney Rose, by Forglen and out of an Orkney ewe.

The ewe lamb Lyonpark Samii went for 650gns to G Sinclair, Heriot, Midlothian. Samii was bred by W Kennedy, Maybole, Ayrshire, and was by Beachy Noble King and out of a homebred ewe. The same buyer stuck with the Lyonpark flock to bid 600gns for the ewe lamb Lyonpark Salvia, by Aviemore Reclaim and out of a homebred ewe.

Averages: Main sale: 29 gimmers, £517.00; 11 ewe lambs; £635.73. Southolm dispersal: 1 ewe; £819.00, 3 gimmers, £1,197.00; 1 ewe lamb; £262.50. Harestanes dispersal: 11 gimmers, £323.59.
