The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 68 prime cattle, 2 young bulls, 34 over thirty month cattle, 6,707 prime lambs and 5,016 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 10th December, 2009.

Top price in the prime cattle of 183.5p for a Limousin heifer from J. & N. Blaylock & Son, Hallburn, others to 175.5p (x2) Englishtown, 175.5p Houghton House, 174.5p Wyseby Hill Cottage; Charolais 179.5p, 175.5p, 174.5p Hallburn. Heavyweight Limousin bullocks to 172.5p from Hallburn, 169.5p Haining House. Heavyweight Charolais bullocks to £1,303, £1,252 Sceughdyke.

The OTM trade was in keeping with national trend. Limousin bullocks to £790 Jerriestown; Blue Grey £592 Sewing Shields. Angus bulls £935 Roanstree. Limousin cows to £783 Sceughdyke; Blonde d’Aquitaine £699 Nunscleugh; British Blue £666 Wanwood Hill; Holstein £643 Halltown; Angus £631 Clement Leazes.

A large entry of lambs sold to a full ring of buyers, who were keen for sheep resulting in the sale averaging 170.5p.

The 5299 lambs over 36kg averaged 168.2p and the 1408 lambs under 36kg averaged 175p. Lambs under 30kg regularly sold in excess of 180p and were far short of requirements.
