    EBLEX Launches Flock Notebook
22/12/08

The EBLEX Sheep Better Returns Programme (Sheep BRP) has published a new, free ‘Flock Notebook’, which replaces the Sheep Diary from previous years.

Flock Note Book

It is intended to help producers keep track of the physical performance and day to day events of their sheep enterprise. The practical planner is pocketsize and spiral bound, making it easy to keep with you and use out in the field.

The handy planner provides pages for farmers to record essential information regarding their flock, such as vaccination dates, stock numbers, scanning results, lambing records, purchases and sales.

Mixed with practical pages on topics such as lamb selection, how to MOT your ram and condition score ewes the emphasis is on helping farmers increase their returns. Tables for recording feed use and inputs to grassland help keep a focus on costs for the enterprise

The notebook also offers sheep health advice. Common flock problems such as scald and footrot are detailed and the signs, causes, treatment and prevention methods are explained.

“Keeping a track of what is happening in your flock is the first step to making positive management decisions” says Chris Lloyd EBLEX Industry Development Manager. “Planning starts with good information and the notebook offers practical advice in a compact format. We have improved the size and layout for ease of use as well as adding to the record pages which producers will find useful.

“The Flock Notebook is a must for those who want to keep flock records, monitor how their enterprise is performing and make good management decisions based on knowledge.”

The Flock Notebook has been produced with Trident Feeds and is available free on request to all English sheep producers. To obtain a copy, please email brp@eblex.org.uk or alternatively call 0870 241 8829 or fax your name and address to 01480 453 005.
