Charolais raised the bar and set a new centre record average of £4,067 for the May multi beef breed sale in Stirling on Monday 2 May, together with a record 10,000gns leading price.
Champion, Ugie Euros at 10,000gns

Sale topper at 10,000gns was the breed champion, Ugie Euros TI +24, SRI +30, a 20 month old by the 14,000gns Goldies Banker and out of a homebred dam by Maerdy Offa. Bred and exhibited by Jimmy Wilson, Mintlaw, Peterhead, he sold to the Campbell family, Ian, John and their father Colin, Thrunton, Alnwick.
The Campbells more than recouped their spend with their string of three entries by the 22,000gns Newhouse Bigal coming under the hammer sold. First to go at 6,000gns was Thrunton Eddie TI +27, SRI +21, a 20 month old out of a homebred dam by Moncur General to Fairlie Farms, Arbroath,
A second 6,000gns call was made by Messrs Turnbull, Kingsbarns, St Andrews for Thrunton Endeavour TI +28, SRI +27, an 18 month old and one of twins out of a Burradon Talisman homebred dam. A bid of 5,000gns secured Thrunton Elixir TI +24, SRI +23 for Messrs Younger, Castletown, Thurso. A 17 month old, he was out of a homebred cow by Maerdy Nero.
Thrunton Elevation TI +24, SRI +35, another entry from the Campbells, this time a 19 month old by Burradon Talisman and out of a Mowbraypark Orlando sired homebred dam made 5,500gns to Messrs Robb, Mauchline, Ayr.
Lochend Eagle TI +21, SRI +26, a 17 month old from Iain and Rhona Millar, Port of Menteith, Stirling was secured for 6,000gns by Nicol and Sons, Skene, Aberdeen. A Mortimers Roselier son, he was out of a homebred dam by the 18,000gns Derryharney Outstanding.
Other leading entries included two, 16 month olds from Hamish Goldie, Ruthwell, Dumfries. Goldies Fireball TI +22, SRI +27, a Goldies Champion son and out of a homebred dam going back to the 7,000gns Thrunton Trademark made 5,200gns to Messrs Wood, Port Charlotte, Islay. Minutes before the reserve champion, Goldies Flint TI +37, SRI +38, a Blelack Blackberet son sold for 4,500gns to Messrs Anderson and Son, Lauder.
A bid of 5,000gns from Sordy and Alnham, Whittingham, Alnwick was made for Balthayock Eusebius TI +33, SRI +43, a 19 month old by the 10,000gns Balmyle Churchill and out of homebred dam by Balthayock Rapier from David Walter, Perth.
