Galloway Cattle National Show at WIgtown

Galloway Cattle Breeders from across the British Isles head for the 200th Wigtown Agricultural Show on Wed, August 3 and their breed’s National Show.

Easily accessed from the A75 Stranraer to Gretna Road and 30 mins from both Ulster ferry terminals Wigtown Show features 65 entries for 11 classes of Galloway Cattle being judged by Robert Ballantyne from Canada.

Another distinguished visitor will be HRH The Princess Royal attending to mark the bicentenary of south west Scotland’s longest established show. A show for all with a love of good livestock, not least Galloway cattle, one of the oldest and purest of our native cattle breeds.

Famed for their hardiness and ability to live off the poorest of land even in areas of very high rainfall Galloways are now found as far afield as Canada, Germany and Switzerland.

The Galloway female, an ideal suckler cow, will produce an excellent calf greatly in great demand as a source of high quality, naturally grown beef.
