The company held its Spring Show and Sale of OTM and prime cattle in conjunction with its weekly prime stock sale. Demand from the ringside pushed all cattle pounds dearer on the week.

OTM’s: A very mixed quality entry met an electric trade topping at 170p for a young Limousin from Messrs Raine, Salers sold to 130p from Caithness, with dairy cows to 120p from Messrs Beard. Top price per head was £1,143 paid for an Angus from Auchingills.

Prime cattle: An excellent entry saw a tremendous trade with all heifers averaging 222.7p/kg. What a days trading, quality cattle, a full ringside of butchers and wholesalers, with Maurice Wharton of Black Brow making a welcome seasonal reappearance. Demand outstripped supply with all quality heifers regardless of weight. The sale topped at 240p for the 1st prize heifer for Mr Taylor, Dashwellgreen purchased by Mr Wharton, 2nd prize heifer from Messrs Fiddler realised 229p again purchased by Mr Wharton, 1st prize steer, a 700kg Limousin from Messrs Jardine, Yett sold to 213p purchased again by Mr Wharton, Back brow, who also bought the 2nd prize steer at 207p from Englishtown. Blue heifers from Dashwellgreen sold to 236p purchased by Mr S McGimpsey.

Farmers 222.7p heifers average @ 56% equates to 397.6p deadweight

A similar show of 3,124 prime hoggs were forward to the usual busy ring of buyers. A far better show of best hoggs were forward and in demand with export weight and light weight hoggs sharper on the week. More heavyweight hoggs forward again and remained similar. Many more hoggs needed to fulfill demand.

The sale topped at 318p for outstanding Beltex hoggs from regular consigner DS & RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill and top price of £127 per head from the same home.

A smaller show of 2,219 cast ewes and rams was presented to the usual ring of customers, with trade for all classes dearer on the week.

Heavyweight ewes were slightly easier apart from the best, with lightweight ewes similar on the week. Rams remain easily sold, with all classes short of buyer requirements.

Sale topped at £175 for Texel rams from Kilnford Croft and ewes to £154 for Texel ewes from Beckfoot.
