National Park is Tops for Best Views

Beauty spots in the Yorkshire Dales National Park make up nearly half the county’s top 50 finest views chosen by readers of the Dalesman magazine.

In total, more than 20 locations in the Yorkshire Dales National Park were chosen for the list in the September edition of the magazine. And eight of them are in the top 20, including Ribblehead Viaduct in second place, Muker hay meadows in fifth, Buttertubs Pass sixth, Burnsall eighth, Swaledale ninth and Bolton Abbey tenth.

Number one spot was given to Sutton Bank in the North York Moors National Park.

Dalesman Magazine editor Adrian Braddy said:
“Clearly the Yorkshire Dales are just about the most stunning part of Great Britain, if not the world, so it’s hardly surprising that so many vistas in the National Park have made it into the list.”

Peter Charlesworth, Chairman of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, said:
“The people who live and work in our beautiful landscape already know just how special it is, but to take so many places in the top 50 list really does bring it home how lucky we are.

“Hopefully the publicity will encourage even more people to come and experience the Yorkshire Dales for themselves.”

A number of well-known Yorkshire personalities also chose their favourite views in the county, among them.

TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh, who said: "The Wharfe Valley, from Ilkley up through Bolton Abbey and Burnsall holds a special place in my heart, as do the moors themselves. I will never tire of them, or of that view."
