Milk Must Have A Future Video

Kirkcudbright Farmers star in hilarious music video to raise awareness of dairy industry issues.

More than 70 members of The Farmers Wives Choir and Farmers Choir took part in filming Milk Must Have a Future. Set to the tune of Creedence Clearwater Revival's Proud Mary, it shows dozens of farmers dancing in a large, rotary milking parlour.

It was the brainchild of Kate Picken, a farmer's wife and music teacher from Milton Farm, Kirkcudbright. She wrote the lyrics and hosted much of the filming on the family's Farm. "We are really amazed at how many people have watched it," she said. "Milk is cheaper to buy than water and a lot of people in the milk industry are under a lot of pressure. "I thought this was a way to highlight the concerns with a touch of humour."

The film was produced to raise awareness of issues in the dairy industry which has seen the cost of milk drop to less than the price of water in a positive way.

Members of the choir put the video together at Milton Farm in a day. Kate, whose daughter Jennifer performs the solo at the start of the recording was involved in the creation of the Farmers Wives Choir two years ago to mark the 75th anniversary of the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs.
