Promotion Pays Off for Roscrea Lleyns

The Southern Ireland Lleyn Breeders Club held an Open Day at Killure More, Ballinasloe, Co Galway in August which was very successful. This promotion cetainly paid off with many more potential buyers round the sale ring at this years sale.

The Champion pen of Lleyn females, which were also the first prize shearling ewes topped the sale. The pen of five shearling ewes from W & J Tait, County Cork sold for €260/head to James Vance, Ballintra.

Next in the section was the second prize and reserve champion females winning pen from O Barry & E Dietvorst, Duncormick which sold for €250/head to James Bryan, Kilbritton. Messrs Barry & Dietvorst also sold two pen sat €210/head to G Rowe, Milford & M Carroll, Castleconnell. The 3rd prize pen from Alan McDonald realised €210/head to G Sullivan, Nenagh.

In the ewe lamb section Mary Gordon, Co Sligo topped with the first prize ewe lambs which sold for €160/head to D Beattie, Ballinagh. Mr Beattie bought another pen from Ms Gordon at €158/head also a pen from B Donnellan, Ballinasloe at €152/head. B Donnellan sold further pens at €151 and €150 twice.

There was 100% clearance in both the shearling & ewe lamb sections.

The aged ewes had set off well with the days judge selling two year olds at €195/head to J Connor, Moate. Mr Connar also bought a pen from W Power, Wexford for €165/head.

The rams saw Elizabeth Ovington, County Kildare top when selling Count for €800 to G Sullivan, Nenagh. Count, a shearling ram was sired by a Dr Gwyn Evans ram out of a Robin & David Darker ewe. J O’Donoghue, County Kerry sold Con for €500 to P O’Shea, Killarney. O Barry & E Dietvorst sold a homebred sired shearling ram for €350 to E Wall, Clonmel.
